Concrete features are sweeping home interior trends, with more clients opting for concrete stairs to achieve the perfect industrial and modern style in their homes. Traditional timber staircases require frequent maintenance to remove scuff marks and maintain a pristine polished state. As they offer little versatility with finishing options, clients are opting for concrete alternatives over timber.

Any design can be achieved with concrete stairs, enabling the perfect spiral and landing to be executed in construction. With a variety of options in finishes, concrete is an incredibly versatile material and is easily matched with any wood, metal or colour scheme.

How does it work?

Concrete stairs create immediate access to work sites as construction proceeds. Stairs are generally the first built in construction to ensure workers are able to seamlessly move between levels. The CFM team has over 20 years installing all styles of staircases, from spiralling grand entrances to a simple flight of backyard steps.

An extended process is involved in the preparation, design, pouring and setting of concrete stairs. Ensuring that the dimensions are perfect and the concrete is cast to perfection, the formwork is planned using accurate measurements of each rising height, total widths and treads. For perfectly standing stairs, the ground requires preparation before any formwork is constructed.

Formwork is generally assembled using timber panels and braced for the concrete pour. This step is the most crucial, as it ensures that the stairs are perpendicular to the ground and any structural imperfections are able to be resolved. During the pour, reinforcements such as steel rods are laid to ensure the stairs are supported and structurally sound for an extended lifespan.
